Our Advocacy
Giving Voice to the Unheard
At Al Khodor Foundation, we believe that meaningful change begins by listening to the voices of those who are too often overlooked. Our advocacy efforts are guided by the lived experiences of women, children, older adults, persons with disabilities, caregivers, and families facing poverty. We work to amplify their voices, promote equitable policies, and inspire solutions that create healthier, stronger, and more inclusive communities.
Universal Healthcare Coverage
We advocate for a future where every person can access quality healthcare without financial hardship. No family should have to delay treatment, sell their belongings, or choose between healthcare and basic necessities. We support policies and community-based solutions that expand healthcare access, strengthen primary healthcare, and improve financial protection for vulnerable populations.
Maternal and Child Health
Every mother deserves the opportunity to experience a safe pregnancy and every child deserves a healthy start in life. We advocate for timely prenatal care, skilled birth attendance, emergency obstetric services, newborn care, and community education that reduce preventable maternal and infant deaths.
Disability Inclusion
Every individual deserves the opportunity to participate fully in society. We promote inclusive healthcare, education, employment, and community participation for children and adults living with disabilities while working to reduce stigma and improve accessibility.
Caregiver Recognition and Support
Family caregivers are essential partners in healthcare, yet they often receive little recognition or training. We advocate for caregiver education, community support networks, and policies that recognize caregivers as an important part of improving health outcomes.
Health Literacy and Patient Navigation
Healthcare should be understandable and accessible to everyone. We advocate for improving health literacy, helping individuals understand their rights, navigate healthcare systems, access available services, and make informed decisions about their care.
Women’s Safety and Dignity
Women should never face violence, neglect, or discrimination during pregnancy or throughout their lives. We advocate for respectful maternity care, greater awareness of gender-based violence, stronger community support systems, and environments where women can seek help safely and without fear.
Poverty Reduction and Economic Opportunity
Health and poverty are closely connected. We support policies and community initiatives that expand educational opportunities, strengthen livelihoods, empower women entrepreneurs, and improve economic resilience so families can build healthier and more secure futures.
Our Approach to Advocacy
Our advocacy is grounded in partnership, evidence, and community voices. As we develop community-based programs, we will work alongside healthcare professionals, educators, researchers, policymakers, local leaders, and development partners to identify practical solutions that can improve lives across Senegal.
We believe that sustainable change happens when communities are heard, evidence informs decisions, and partnerships transform ideas into action.
